The Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg:
Tradition and Innovation
Respect for tradition and receptiveness to new ideas, a particulary wide range of subjects: these are the special features of the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. Deeply rooted in classical humanist education and responsive to social and technological change, the Friedrich-Alexander University sees its main task in paving the way for progress with forethought and a keen sense of responsibility. With its eleven faculties - nine of which are in Erlangen and two in Nuremberg -, with 263 professorial chairs and a total staff of round about 11,600 the University is the second largest in Bavaria and a major factor in research and teaching far beyond the region itself. Its wealth of academic potential makes the Friedrich-Alexander University a dynamic partner for industry and culture. Currently nearly 21,000 students are enrolled at the Friedrich-Alexander University, with more than 15,000 in Erlangen and over 5,600 in Nuremberg.
