CEWIT Announces 2008 Int’l Conference on Cutting Edge Wireless & IT

Unlike previous conferences, which were well in advance of the CEWIT building opening, the 2008 conference will provide tours of the completed CEWIT building in the Stony Brook Research Park. To facilitate a global webcast, a first for CEWIT, the conference will be held at the Charles B. Wang Center on the campus of Stony Brook University.

CEWIT is a $250 million government, industry and academic partnership leading the next wave of the wireless and information technology revolutions. The conference will provide a platform for leading business and academic institutions to explore collaboratively new technologies and their business potential.

CEWIT held a Commercialization Conference earlier this year, which displayed 15 commercially viable technologies, developed at CEWIT, for high tech entrepreneurs. The 2008 International Conference on Cutting Edge Wireless & Information Technologies, however, will be broken into business and academic tracks, both of which will be archived and webcast, and will have far more exhibits from worldwide technology powerhouses. These tracks, and also a series of nationally recognized keynote speakers from such companies as Northrop Grumman, CA, Motorola, IBM and SAP will feature the latest wireless & information technology innovations all under one roof. For more information about this year’s conference please visit www.cewit.org/conference.

“CEWIT has been a great partnership for both Stony Brook and CA,” said Russ Artzt, Vice Chairman and Founder of CA and Chairperson of the CEWIT Advisory Board. “The CEWIT 2008 International Conference on Cutting Edge Wireless & Information Technologies demonstrates the organization’s commitment to creating the right partnerships, wireless and IT research, and industrial outreach. This is yet another step toward promoting the commercialization of technologies and keeping the region at the forefront in Wireless and Information Technology.”

“CEWIT’s yearly conference is garnering more and more worldwide attention and attracting presenters from both the business and academic communities. We are very proud to be providing a worldwide showcase for the latest wireless and IT innovation,” said Dr. Satya Sharma, CEWIT’s Center Director.

About CEWIT

With over 70 associated faculty members, 190 PhD and 180 Master students engaged in active R&D laboratory space, Stony Brook's Center of Excellence in Wireless & Information Technology is a next generation research and educational facility. The CEWIT building, which opens this summer, will add 100 new labs designed for high tech Research and development. Long Island continues to emerge as a leading worldwide center for information technology in the U.S. and, to best capitalize on this advantage, spur economic growth, advance scientific research and develop the technologies of tomorrow, the Center of Excellence In Wireless and Information Technology was created in 2003. The Center’s vision is four-fold: become recognized as a world leader in wireless and IT, conduct first-class interdisciplinary research in the emerging, critical technologies of the information age, address the skilled technology worker shortage, and foster new enterprise development. The Center has obtained more than twelve patents in just the last two years. CEWIT is an unparalleled resource, advancing the science and technology underlying the next epoch of the information revolution.
