International scientists get to know the Federal Cluster of Excellence in Chemnitz

One year after the start of the Federal Cluster of Excellence “Merge Technologies for Multifunctional Lightweight Structures” at Technische Universität Chemnitz Professor Lothar Kroll, CEO, and Dr. Jürgen Tröltzsch, COO, invite to the first international conference on 24. and 25. October 2013 in Chemnitz.

The “International MERGE Technologies Conference (IMTC) for Lightweight Structures” takes place at the Virtual Reality Center from the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology (IWU), Reichenhainer Str. 88.

About 200 visitors from over 10 nations are expected to the conference at Chemnitz. Greeting words come from representatives from politics, industry and academia. The main focus of the IMTC lies on four themes:
– Session 1 „Composites“, Chair: Professor Bernhard Wielage
– Session 2 „Metal-based hybrids“, Chair: PD Welf-Guntram Drossel
– Session 3 „Lightweight structures“, Chair: Professor Thomas Lampke
– Session 4 „Smart systems integration”, Chair: Professor Thomas Geßner
“It is to highlight the worldwide unique combination of different academic disciplines in key enabling technologies within the Cluster MERGE. The importance is shown by the balanced mixture of speakers”, says Dr. Tröltzsch. Apart from presentation from representatives of the industry, the researchers of MERGE show their latest works and results in their specific research area. The IMTC 2013 is an intersection for the experts from academia and industry with regard to resource efficiency in mass production of hybrid technologies and lightweight structures. Professor Kroll emphasises, that “by merging individual material-specific manufacturing processes for the mass production of lightweight structures, considerable savings of energy and material will be attained”.
