In the north of Brittany, the attractive seaside destination of Tréguier has everything that the yachting community may wish for: breathtaking scenery, access to beautiful nautical destinations, and a modern, secure and easily accessible dry port — West Riviera Yachting, now served by a completely new, bilingual website.
“What we have is a modern structure using up-to-date technical and logistical methods, which take good care of your boat and the environment, which means less maintenance, lower costs, and more security for the user,” explains Yann Huchet du Guermeur, Business Development Manager of West Riviera Yachting.
West Riviera Yachting offers a full range of services to boat owners who want to experience for themselves the beauty of Brittany: the dry-port facility is situated next to the deep-water port of Tréguier. Visitors will be given a full tour of the facilities when coming to the Tréguier marina. For those attending the Boat Show, in Southampton (England), between 14 and 23 September of this year, West Riviera Yachting will be on Stand No.F004.
West Riviera Yachting can meet all the expectations of sailing and motor-cruising enthusiasts, and is positioned close to Southern England and the Channel Islands, along the attractive northern Breton coastline. Tréguier and its marina represent an alternative to the congested ports on the British side of the Channel.
West Riviera Yachting features 8,200 m² of secure land (storage zones, eco-careenage area and technical area); 2,400 m² of covered storage facilities; up to 300 boats parked, all sizes included; handling without dismasting; an innovative lifting system without straps (hence, there are no constraints on the hull of the boat); secure and efficient wedging; and, last but not least, a clubhouse due to open very soon.
With its professional team of marine enthusiasts, West Riviera Yachting offers smooth and safe sailing-and-storage facilities. More particularly, the gentle, hazard-free handling is carried out thanks to Nautipartk® — the company’s patented system of hydraulic trailers that makes it possible to transport each boat (without dismasting) directly from the slipway on to the storage area, which is clean, closed off and sheltered from prevailing winds.
West Riviera Yachting offers maintenance services that are both flexible and environmentally friendly. Hull-and-deck cleaning maintenance is performed in a dedicated facility. The rinsing water is recycled, while the residue of the cleaning process is treated on site; the dangerous waste, for its part, is sent to a certified treatment centre.
“We are proud that our environmental authority has granted West Riviera Yachting the ecological, anti-pollution Vague Bleue [literally, Blue Wave] label,” explains Yann Huchet du Guermeur.
West Riviera Yachting has chosen not to rely on in-house repair services, so that clients can choose any service provider they want for repairs and maintenance: West Riviera Yachting has a list of trusted partners to choose from. Any repair job is done under the client’s supervision.
“And if you are more do-it-yourself minded, you will have access to a technical area with [the provision of] air, water and electricity,” adds Yann Huchet du Guermeur.
West Riviera Yachting offers tailor-made services: the company is committed to making its clients’ boating experience as enjoyable as possible. “The West Riviera Yachting team sets everything up so that yachters are able to concentrate on the pleasures of sailing, with no constraints,” explains Yann Huchet du Guermeur.
West Riviera Yachting can provide various dedicated services, such as organising the transfer of the boat owner from the nearest airport (or railway station) to the marina, or sorting out the victualling of the ship. When the owner of the boat arrives in Tréguier, everything can be set up so that he (or she) finds the ship moored to one of the pontoons of the marina (reserved for users of the dry port), ready to put to sea.
In the very near future, UniverSail, a specialist web portal, will carry a full catalogue of West Riviera Yachting services; it will enable boat owners to manage their ship’s maintenance and handling operations remotely.
West Riviera Yachting’s dry-sailing solutions and wintering services are all priced very competitively, as sample prices quoted here (below) illustrate. The package of services offered by West Riviera Yachting simplifies matters for the boat owner and can encompass car-hire services, hotel bookings, etc.
- Dry-port services: West Riviera Yachting offers the full gamut of services that a marina does, with a reserved site with access to water and electricity, together with four, five or 10 launchings per year, and the rinsing of the hull at each landing. It is possible to reserve a pontoon for one (or several) night(s), for yachters who want to sail for several days around Tréguier. For an 8.50-metre boat with four launchings (out and back), the price is of €1,780 per year.
- Overwintering services: A reserved site in the park is provided for the duration of the client’s choice; handling and rinsing of the hull are included. For an 8.50-metre boat, with handling (out and back), for six months in the marina, the price is €820.
- Careenage: In an area that is clean and in compliance with the highest environmental standards (i.e. Vague Bleue Carénage-approved), for an 8.50-metre boat, the price is €75 (excluding handling). For this service, clients need to give 24 hours’ notice.

Researchers have shown that, by using global positioning systems (GPS) to measure ground deformation caused by a large underwater earthquake, they can provide accurate warning of the resulting tsunami in just a few minutes after the earthquake onset.
For the devastating Japan 2011 event, the team reveals that the analysis of the GPS data and issue of a detailed tsunami alert would have taken no more than three minutes. The results are published on 17 May in Natural Hazards and Earth System Sciences, an open access journal of ...
A new study of glaciers worldwide using observations from two NASA satellites has helped resolve differences in estimates of how fast glaciers are disappearing and contributing to sea level rise.
The new research found glaciers outside of the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets, repositories of 1 percent of all land ice, lost an average of 571 trillion pounds (259 trillion kilograms) of mass every year during the six-year study period, making the oceans rise 0.03 inches (0.7 mm) per year. ...
About 99% of the world’s land ice is stored in the huge ice sheets of Antarctica and Greenland, while only 1% is contained in glaciers.
However, the meltwater of glaciers contributed almost as much to the rise in sea level in the period 2003 to 2009 as the two ice sheets: about one third. This is one of the results of an international study with the involvement of geographers from the University of Zurich.

Second sound is a quantum mechanical phenomenon, which has been observed only in superfluid helium.
Physicists from the University of Innsbruck, Austria, in collaboration with colleagues from the University of Trento, Italy, have now proven the propagation of such a temperature wave in a quantum gas. The scientists have published their historic findings in the journal Nature.
Below a critical temperature, certain fluids become superfluid ...
Researchers use synthetic silicate to stimulate stem cells into bone cells
In new research published online May 13, 2013 in Advanced Materials, researchers from Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) are the first to report that synthetic silicate nanoplatelets (also known as layered clay) can induce stem cells to become bone cells without the need of additional bone-inducing factors.
Synthetic silicates are made ...
