UBIFRANCE takes more than 125 companies to Mobile World Congress 2011

Mobile World Congress is the world’s leading event for the mobile telecommunications, services and content sector. In addition to over 125 French exhibitors at the trade show, the French Pavilion will also play host to three competitiveness clusters, five regional agencies, and the Invest in France Agency. A wide range of products, services and technologies will be on show, including chips, middleware, theme-based mobile solutions, content, applications and wireless telecoms networks.

Five regions of France (Aquitaine, Brittany, Ile-de-France, Languedoc-Roussillon and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur) will present their expertise in the sector on the French Pavilion. The Systematic, Cap Digital and SCS competitiveness clusters will also welcome a host of companies to their respective booths.

According to the French Mobile Operators Association, the French mobile-telephony market includes 18 operators, 15 of which are mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs), and several brand licences, which generated a consolidated turnover of €23 billion in 2009, up by 1.4% on 2008.

MVNOs have amounted to 25% of the net growth of the entire sector since 2006. The penetration rate (number of SIM cards per inhabitant) stood at 96% in late 2009. There are now 61.5 million SIM cards (up 6% on 2008). The number of smartphones doubled in 2009 and they represent 12% of all mobile devices.
