Kerneos builds dry-mix mortar solutions into European Coatings Show

TERNAL® EV is a novel calcium aluminate binder that allows dry-mix producers to efficiently develop an entire range of self-levelling compounds with reliable and consistent performance. This addresses a common issue for dry-mix producers.

Each individual levelling compound in a range is formulated using multiple binder components, which makes it difficult to achieve a reliable outcome across a whole range of floor-levelling compounds. Each of these products is developed using a single core binder composed of a combination of TERNAL® EV and a suitable calcium sulfate (according to local availability).

The core binder allows for the creation of a wide range of levelling compounds as well as self-levelling compounds, which can be developed quickly through the adjustment of the quantity added to fillers that make up the bulk of typical formulations. (The usual range of additives must still be used in order to fine-tune the performance level.)

TERNAL® EV-based floor coatings and self-levelling floor compounds provide solutions in relation to key issues in the construction industry, such as environmental concerns and the durability of materials.

Calcium aluminates are typically used to produce dry-mix mortars with demanding time-defined performance, often relating to quite precise reactivity profiles, mechanical performance or dimensional stability. These performances can vary according to the time and date of the production of the dry-mix batch in relation to the installation date of the product. This process is widely referred to as ‘dry-mix ageing’. In an effort to dramatically reduce this, Kerneos has developed patented technology, which it has applied to its calcium-based products.

Dry-mix compounds based on this new product have demonstrated improved performance stability over time. Mortars with extended lifespans are also valued by producers exporting mortars (or those with products where stock rotation is low) due to their specialist nature, and also in terms of the advantages they present during the launch of a new mortar on the market.
Kerneos will present its innovative products at the European Coatings Show (Stand 327, Hall 9) in Nuremberg (Germany) from 29 to 31 March of this year.

Kerneos has established itself as the partner of choice for innovations in dry-mix applications. The company is committed to supporting technological development and innovation in the building sector.
