Engineering framework for automation expanded

The Siemens Industry Automation division has extended its "Totally Integrated Automation Portal" (TIA Portal) engineering framework with a number of functionalities in version 13.

The Siemens Industry Automation division has extended its “Totally Integrated Automation Portal” (TIA Portal) engineering framework with a number of functionalities in version 13. These include improvements in the diagnostics concept and know-how protection, and in synchronized team collaboration in large projects. As part of TIA Portals V13, the functions of a number of engineering tools have also been enlarged.

The Simatic WinCC V13 HMI (human-machine interface) software is now also suitable for the new generation of Basic Panels. The operator interface has also be renewed, for example, with diagrams, buttons, and display elements. The G110M inverter family, which has the drive and motor in one unit, is now also integrated into Sinamics Startdrive V13 and can therefore be configured in the TIA Portal. Simatic Step 7 V13 has been expanded with the engineering for the new Simatic S7-1500 controller CPU 1515-2 PN and CPU 1518-4 PN/DP.

Expansions in the integrated diagnostics concept mean that errors on distributed I/O devices are now automatically detected in the TIA Portal V13. Resulting messages are displayed on the integrated display of the controller, the HMI device, and the I/O module itself. Know-how protection has also been extended. For example, by know-how protection of the blocks, linking the series number to the program, and protection of Ethernet communication, for example, with the HMI devices. For engineering complex projects, expanded team engineering functions have also been implemented. Engineers can now work on parts of a project independently of each other offline and access a control jointly online to commission it. They work in a common database while the engineering framework ensures consistency, for example, automatically resolving naming conflicts.

With the TIA Portal from Siemens, the user quickly and intuitively performs automation and drive tasks, saving up to 30 percent of engineering time. The software architecture is designed for high efficiency and user-friendliness, and it is suitable for both first-time users and experienced users. It offers a standardized operating concept for controllers, HMI, and drives, for shared data storage and automatic data consistency, for example during configuration, communication and diagnosis, and also offers powerful libraries covering all automation objects.
