Currently, Rutherford, CICC, or Nuclotron superconductors within a cable structure are used in order to conduct high current densities. However, the cooling capacity possible in these cables is limited by the hydraulic resistance or indirect thermal contact with the coolant. <br> A new design for superconductors was developed, which combines the physical optimum of both these effects. The superconducting wires themselves form a hollow channel in the cable, through which the coolant is passed. The superconducting sections are arranged tightly against one another. Due to this shape, pre-defined distances are maintained.
