Nebulisable liposomes - Method for the pulmonary delivery of agents

The treatment of lung and respiratory diseases, such as asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), pneumonia and pulmonary hypertension, is carried out by means of agents with a long biological half-life. Liposomes are favoured that remain as stable as possible during nebulisation and that achieve a delayed release of the agent with as few side-effects as possible. The liposome formulations at hand fulfil these requirements of the delivery of pharmaceutical agents to the lung in an outstanding manner. They are characterised by a good tolerance, because they are composed out of the body's own substances that are found naturally in the lung. The composition of liposomes is selected in such a way that the agents packed therein are released selectively and over a specific period of time, in a controlled manner.
