A new method that prevents the loss of silencing activity of double-strand RNA in humans

Since the discovery that short double-strand RNA molecules (siRNAs) can trigger sequence-specific degradation of target RNA in cells, great efforts are going on throughout the world to use siRNAs in human therapy. The group of Dr. Dr. Albrecht Piiper at the Saarland University discovered a way to defend double-stranded and partial double-stranded molecules of RNA – particularly siRNAs – from degradation by RNAse in mammalian body fluid including humans.
