SQUID – the suspended robotic assistant

The SQUID is an autonomous robot system that is suspended from several cables. The robot is able to move freely and independently in all three axes by changing the cable lengths. Unlike driving or walking robots, this system is independent of the ground and very robust.

Various sensors facilitate orientation in space, as well as the localization of people and objects. The SQUID uses these sensors to react independently to a changing environment and to learn complex tasks. This means that the SQUID can combine a broad range of active elements, such as a light source or toolholder, with the appropriate sensor technology or an intelligent controller. The system could also be controlled by means of a Smartphone App.
