Monoclonale antibody: Mouse anti-human complement Factor H

Scientists at the Georg-August-University produced monoclonal antibodies which react with the polymorphic variant of human complement Factor H (FH-402(His), a marker for age-related macular degeneration. These peptide-specific antibodies specifically react with the polymorphic variants of human complement Factor H (either FH-402Y or FH-402H). Therefor they can be used for the screening of individuals at risk for developing AMD, as well as for the functional characterization of complement Factor H variants. AMD is the leading cause of blindness in the elderly. Because there is the chance to treat AMD with a new drug ( anti-VEGF-antibodies) nowadays this would increase the value of a new diagnostic screening assay.
