Peptides for Diagnosis and Therapy of Celery Allergy and of Hazelnut Allergy

Background
Celery is a frequent cause of food allergy in pollen-sensitized patients and may induce severe allergic reactions. Allergic reactions against celery are of major clinical relevance due to celery's wide presence in convenience foods and spice. Approximately 3% – 4% of the European and American population and 5% of young children are affected by immunoglobulin E (IgE) mediated food allergy. The symptoms ranging from mild oral pruritus to a possible life-threatening anaphylactic shock.
Technology
We offer novel linear IgE-binding peptide epitopes of the major celery aller-gen Api g1 for the diagnosis and therapy of celery allergy. The peptides can also serve as a basis for the detection of traces of Api g1 allergens in food and other products. Based on the novel peptides, a high specific assay was developed which allows the differentiation between celery allergic patients and healthy individuals.
Benefits:

Highly specific diagnosis of celery allergic patients (IgE detection)

Assay allows a reliable, rapid and easy diagnosis

Peptides are usable for chip and other high throughput applications

Peptides might be suitable for a specific desensitization of patients (Immunotherapy)

Antibodies against these peptides can be used for the detection of traces of celery in food and other products

IP Rights
EP application (July 2010)
PCT application (July 2011)

Origin
The invention was made at the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin.
Find the technology offer and contact details here: http://www.ipal.de/technologieangebote/10048
