Parting and Grooving Tool (Stechwerkzeug)

This invention protects a particularly efficient and inexpensive parting and grooving tool for the German market, which is the second largest world wide market for precision tooling. The main benefit of this series-production ready tool is comprised by its simplicity of production as well as handling despite its high precision and multi functional capabilities. In this fashion, this parting and grooving tool reduces set-up time for machines increasing productivity as well as reducing through-put time with lower tooling costs for the machine operating company.

2. Technology
The main goal of this technology is to provide a parting and grooving tool with the minimal amount material usage. As seen in the figure, the tool is constructed with a replaceable cutting bit (the red component in the middle) which is inserted into a wedge with a V-profile (main claim of the patent) for maximum precision, improved fixing and a better distribution of forces during cutting. This cutting bit is the only piece of the tool suffering from abrasion and wear due usage making it easily and quickly replaceable reducing setting-up time and downtime for instance for turning machines. The small size of the replaceable bit not only reduces material costs for production but also enables a simpler manufacturing technology to be utilized.
3. Development Stage

The parting and grooving tool has been developed up to series-production readiness and is being currently passively marketed by the inventors over the internet. However, the inventors lack the capacity or resources to unlock the full market potential of the technology.

4. Market / Opportunity

The Precision tool branch is one of the largest within the mechanical engineering market with over 70.000 employees, hundreds of specialised companies, a sales volume olf10 billion € and a growth rate of 8% in

2008 in Germany alone. The German and Japanese Markets are the most important ones within the mechanical engineering market, in this manner, the geographical scope of this patent provides are high enough market potential due to the sheer size and market power of Germany. Application industries for this technology are the major industrial branches, for instance automotive industry, precision engineering, aircraft and aerospace industries, naval industry or plastic manufacturing industry.
