MMIS – Mass-Selective Multipole Ion Trap

The innovative MMIS is a mass-selective multipole ion trap

that in particular enables ions to be stored at low temperatures and allows mass analysis in a single trap. A special electrical connection system allows operation both as a quadrupole and as a multipole of higher order. The switchover between the two operating modes can be conducted quickly (instantaneous change) or slowly (adiabatic change). MMIS enables a mass selection to be achieved in a multipole trap of higher order for the first time. Moreover, the mechanical structure of MMIS and the electrical connection system are easy to produce, and therefore the additional use of MMIS is possible without any substantial increase in production expenditure.
