Improved Process for Explosive Detection
Up to now, explosives based on nitroaromatic compounds have been detected as anions by means of ion-mobility spectroscopy (IMS). The present invention not only detects, but also characterizes these explosives. It involves a more sensitive spectroscopic detection process that is based on a change in the structure of the anions after laser irradiation. Integrating photodetachment spectroscopy with the ion-mobility spectroscopy permits the detection and characterization of explosives.
