Compact Fixturing based on Magneto-Rheological Fluids for Stringers Milling
Here, a completely novel method for fixturing stringers based on magneto-rheological fluids is presented. Magneto-rheological fluids have the property to change their viscosity within fractions of a second by application of an external magnetic field. This change of state can be used to fix and position workpieces that are very difficult to fix due to large size, shape, surface, or a combination. In particular, for components that could be deformed by other fixation facilities this method opens up completely new facilities in production.
