Stevenage, April 2009. DuPont is underlining its exhibit at Achema 2009, the global summit for the chemical process industry (Frankfurt, Germany, 11th-15th May 2009), by hosting a seminar entitled “Managing Corrosion with DuPont™ Teflon®”.

Covering applications from across the process industry, including the power and waste, oil and gas and chemical industries, the seminar will introduce the range of Teflon® products, including resins, coatings and films, available for high-purity manufacturing.

The seminar will be held on Tuesday 12th May 2009, from 13.00 until approximately 18.00 in room Fantasie 2 at the Frankfurt Congress Centre. Visitors to Achema 2009 interested in attending free-of-charge should pre-register with DuPont via Martin.Brueck@deu.dupont.com by the end of April.

Equipment resistant to corrosion and leaching is used in the manufacture of highpurity chemicals and solvents. As will be reflected by the DuPont seminar and exhibit at Achema 2009 (Hall 9, Stand H37-H38), much of this equipment – whether process vessels, tubing, valves and pumps or storage containers – can be lined with Teflon® PFA HP or Teflon® PTFE to extend service life and reduce maintenance, whilst protecting product purity. For example, the new Elaflon PTFE universal hose, developed by Elaflex-Gummi Ehlers GmbH in partnership with ContiTech Schlauch GmbH, is produced with a seamlessly extruded and smooth lining made of Teflon® PTFE. Principal application areas for the new hose include the chemical processing, food and pharmaceutical industries. The PTFE grade used for the lining is graded by the American FDA as conforming to its USP Class VI. Moreover, because the PTFE lining is fully conductive, the hoses are also considered Atex conform and may be used in Ex-Zones 0 and 1.

Corrosion resistant AlWaFlon® pressure hoses and pipes, based on Teflon® PTFE, provide a new and trend-setting application for fluoropolymers. They are a development of Wallstein (Recklinghausen, Germany), who worked in close cooperation with DuPont and Fluortubing (Utrecht, the Netherlands). Typical applications include their use in heat exchangers exposed to highly contaminated flue gases from power and waste incineration plants. They are very durable with the consequence of long-term, low-maintenance operation. Thanks to their long-lasting resistance to internal pressure, low wall thicknesses can be specified which, in turn, can allow high degrees of efficiency. One of the first applications of AlWaFlon® is in the flue gas coolers for the 850-MW-rated Belchatów power plant in Poland. Upon its completion in 2010, the coolers will reduce the temperature of the flue gas from around 170 °C to 130 °C.

Further topics to be featured at the seminar, and on the DuPont Fluoropolymer Solutions stand, include lining laminates made of Teflon® PFA, high performance filters based on Teflon® PTFE membranes and functional coating solutions with Teflon®.

DuPont Fluoropolymer Solutions is a leading producer of fluoropolymer resins, additives, films, finishes and dispersions, PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene), PFA (perfluoroalkoxy), FEP (fluorinated ethylene propylene), ETFE (ethylene-tetrafluoroethylene) and PVF (polivinylfluoride), marketed under the registered trademarks DuPont™ Teflon®, DuPont™ Tefzel®, DuPont™ Tedlar® and DuPont™ Zonyl®.
