She is presently leading two international surveys of the Milky Way, and will be joining a CAR team that is leading a large number of other major surveys in the coming years.
CAR, which is located within the Science and Technology Research Institute, has a world class research profile. Professor Drew will join four other Professors in the Centre plus around 50 other research staff.
Professor Drew was University Lecturer and Tutorial Fellow of St Hilda's College, Oxford University before moving to Imperial College where she became first Reader in 1996 and then Professor of Astrophysics in 1999.
She is also a Caroline Herschel Visiting Fellow at the Space Telescope Science Institute, is on the selection panel for the Royal Society’s Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowship, is on the board of editors for the major astrophysics journal Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society and has sat on numerous Research Council panels.
Professor John Senior, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research) at the University of Hertfordshire said: "We are delighted that Professor Drew will be joining the University in October as her research interests and expertise complement well the existing world class research being carried out in our Centre for Astrophysics Research. Her future activities will therefore contribute to the continuing growth of this dynamic research centre undertaking leading edge astrophysics research.”
