Time is running out for journalists who wish to attend the international congress on psychiatric epidemiology at the beginning of May in Göteborg in Sweden. At the congress many interesting studies in the field of global mental health will be presented.

Leading experts will present results from such issues as sex related violence and the risk of suicide in women, the significance of junk food for behavioural problems in 7-year-olds, and the increasing incidence of dementia in Europe. Other research results describe the increased incidence of psychosis in immigrants in Great Britain, the significance of poverty for child mental health in the US, and increased sick leave as a result of mental disorders in Sweden.

“The programme will be very broad. Studies of mental disorders in all age groups and from all parts of the world will be presented”, says Professor Ingmar Skoog at the Sahlgrenska Academy.

The congress is arranged by the International Federation of Psychiatric Epidemiology, and 300 researchers from all over the world will attend. The main theme will be globalisation and changing patterns of mental disorders across the life span.
