Diabetes competencies from MV in the Emirates demanded
Germany's northeastern state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern expands its international contacts in the healthcare sector.
For this purpose the life sciences initiative of MV BioCon Valley® prepared a business atlas in which the competencies of the region in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of the lifestyle disease Diabetes mellitus is combined.
The atlas is published in English and Arabic language with profiles of companies, hospitals, universities and research institutes from MV. It was presented to the international public for the first time at the Arab health 2012 in Dubai.
The Arab region is a promising market for products and services of the health economy of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The goal is to promote the outstanding achievements of businesses, hospitals and research institutions from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, and to maintain and expand business contacts.
Products and Services “Made in Germany” enjoy a high reputation there. In particular, the skills of the country in the field of diabetes treatment fits to the high demand in the Arab countries. According to the Ministry of Health in Dubai about a quarter of the adult indigenous population suffers diabetes, local doctors say even more than 50 percent.
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern on the other hand has a more than 80-year tradition in diabetes research and treatment. As one of the first institutions worldwide a diabetes hospital was founded in 1930 on the island of Rügen. Today's competence centers in the country include e.g. the Heart and Diabetes Center Hospital of Karlsburg, the Institute for Diabetes “Gerald Katsch” e.V. in Karlsburg , the University of Rostock, the Infocom GmbH in Neubrandenburg, the EUROIMMUN Medical Laboratory Diagnostics AG, Lübeck / Dassow, or the Medigreif Island Hospital Heringsdorf.
