Siemens Introduces Dedicated Women’s Imaging Premium Ultrasound Platform

14.09.2009
Acuson S2000 ultrasound system – Women’s Imaging sets new standard for OB/GYN and breast imaging

Adding a new premium ultrasound platform to its Women’s Imaging line of products, Siemens Healthcare introduces the Acuson S2000 ultrasound system – Women’s Imaging at the 19th World Congress of Ultrasound in Gynecology and Obstetrics (ISUOG) in Hamburg, Germany.

At booth No. 201, the company demonstrates how innovative 3D/4D imaging solution and unique knowledge-based applications enhance the quality of care and speed up workflows in high-risk fetal imaging, obstetrics and gynecology as well as breast imaging.

The Acuson S2000 ultrasound system – Women’s Imaging represents the pinnacle of innovative technologies and workflow-enhancing clinical applications which dramatically improve the efficiency and quality of ultrasound exams. Latest acoustic technologies deliver a powerful system optimized for superb 2D, Doppler and 3D/4D imaging for the most demanding requirements in maternal-fetal medicine, OB/GYN and breast applications, including automated breast volume scanning. The system features unsurpassed image quality through 3D Dynamic TCE tissue contrast enhancement technology which sharpens borders and reduces speckle and noise in the entire volume – rather than in reconstructed “slices” only – to greatly improve subtle tissue differentiation for enhanced diagnostic confidence. Anatomic border definition and tissue contrast is additionally improved through Advanced SieClear spatial compounding and electronic beam steering which rapidly acquires overlapping images from different view angles.
Knowledge-based workflow applications
One of the highlights unique to the Acuson S2000 system –Women’s Imaging includes syngo Auto OB measurements, an advanced clinical tool that automates routine biometry measurements of the fetus. “Up until now, users needed to perform biometry measurements manually,” said Norbert Gaus, chief executive officer, Ultrasound, Siemens Healthcare. Syngo Auto OB measurements eliminate this time-consuming manual process saving up to 75 percent of the keystrokes in routine fetal measurements freeing users from repetitive tasks so they can focus on their patients.” The application also addresses the challenges related to user-dependence and variability, as well as consistency and reproducibility in fetal biometry. Measurements are automatically saved into the patient’s report and include the biparietal diameter (BPD), head circumference (HC), abdominal circumference (AC), femur length (FL), crown rump length (CRL) and the humerus length (HL).
Fetal Echocardiography
The Acuson S2000 system – Women’s Imaging also features advanced applications for fetal echocardiography. Syngo Vector Velocity Imaging (VVI) technology provides physicians with an advanced tool for the assessment of global and regional myocardial muscle and motion mechanics. Specially designed to analyze the delicate cardiac anatomy of the fetus, the application offers clinically valuable visual and quantitative data output including velocity, strain, strain rate, ejection fraction and volume. In addition, the new system features Fetal Heart STIC (Spatio-Temporal Image Correlation) imaging, which captures data over multiple heart cycles and creates a 3D fetal heart volume, allowing sonographers to view the fetal heart in multiple planes. “Obtaining a 3D volume of the fetal heart will allow easy interrogation of the anatomy and may help detect fetal cardiac anomalies more easily during routine obstetrical exams,” said Norbert Gaus, Chief Executive Officer of Ultrasound at Siemens Healthcare. “The earlier anomalies are detected and referred to a pediatric specialist, the better the clinical prognosis is for the postnatal infant.”
Advanced Volumetric Imaging
The Advanced fourSight technology package for the Acuson S2000 system – Women’s Imaging enhances diagnostic confidence by offering comprehensive 3D/4D data acquisition, data rendering and post processing including MultiSlice, Thick Slice imaging and inversion mode. 3-Scape real-time 3D imaging offers industry leading 3D/4D acquisition and multi-planar visualization. Real-time capture and display of grayscale and power Doppler volumes using both high resolution 2D and fourSight 4D transducer technology further enhance the solution. The system also includes industry-exclusive Amnioscopic Rendering, an advanced surface rendering tool which provides photo-realistic images of the fetus – a valuable tool to enhance maternal-fetal bonding.
Complete Breast Imaging Solution
The Acuson S2000 system – Women’s Imaging is open to integrate automated breast volume scanning (ABVS). This configuration features an innovative, mobile in-suite design combining the advanced Acuson S2000 system - Women’s Imaging with a transducer specifically designed for automated ultrasound breast volume imaging. Quickly acquiring full-field sonographic volumes for comprehensive review and diagnosis of the breast, it streamlines workflow and reduces operator dependence and variability. The advanced 3D technology enables the intuitive, anatomical coronal plane, not available using conventional ultrasound. This view provides a more understandable representation of the global anatomy and architecture of the breast. Semi-automated reporting and comprehensive BI-RADS reporting capabilities further enhance the clinical workflow. To further optimize high-volume patient breast care, the system also supports innovative breast imaging applications, such as fatty tissue and eSie Touch elasticity imaging.
Solutions for the Clinical Routine
The Siemens workflow solution for OB/GYN also encompasses the Acuson X300 ultrasound system, Premium Edition (PE) – Women’s Imaging. Compact, highly portable and easy to use, it offers sophisticated applications that were migrated from the high-end performance S Class into the X Class product series to support obstetrics, gynecological and breast imaging. Advanced fourSight volume imaging technology provides a complete 3D/4D solution in addition to delivering streamlined, intuitive workflow and advanced acquisition, data rendering and post-processing functionality for all examinations, including 2D and Doppler. The system also supports syngo Auto OB measurements addressing the workflow requirements of fetal biometry measurements. The Acuson X300 PE – Women’s Imaging accommodates the needs of any clinical environment – from private practices to busy hospital settings.

University of Maryland researchers contribute to historic detection of gravitational waves and light created by event

On August 17, 2017, at 12:41:04 UTC, scientists made the first direct observation of a merger between two neutron stars--the dense, collapsed cores that remain...

Im Focus: Breaking: the first light from two neutron stars merging

Seven new papers describe the first-ever detection of light from a gravitational wave source. The event, caused by two neutron stars colliding and merging together, was dubbed GW170817 because it sent ripples through space-time that reached Earth on 2017 August 17. Around the world, hundreds of excited astronomers mobilized quickly and were able to observe the event using numerous telescopes, providing a wealth of new data.

Previous detections of gravitational waves have all involved the merger of two black holes, a feat that won the 2017 Nobel Prize in Physics earlier this month....

Im Focus: Smart sensors for efficient processes

Material defects in end products can quickly result in failures in many areas of industry, and have a massive impact on the safe use of their products. This is why, in the field of quality assurance, intelligent, nondestructive sensor systems play a key role. They allow testing components and parts in a rapid and cost-efficient manner without destroying the actual product or changing its surface. Experts from the Fraunhofer IZFP in Saarbrücken will be presenting two exhibits at the Blechexpo in Stuttgart from 7–10 November 2017 that allow fast, reliable, and automated characterization of materials and detection of defects (Hall 5, Booth 5306).

When quality testing uses time-consuming destructive test methods, it can result in enormous costs due to damaging or destroying the products. And given that...
