For a better view – Innovations in ultrasound imaging

At Medica 2014 in Dusseldorf, Germany (hall 10, booth A20), Siemens showcases its latest innovations in ultrasound. The main focus of this year's exhibition is the new version of Siemens' premium cardiovascular ultrasound imaging system – the Acuson SC2000 PRIME edition – now with live volume 3D transesophageal echo (TEE) imaging.

For a broad range of clinical specialties at an excellent price/performance ratio, Siemens shows the new Acuson X600 ultrasound system, ideal for obstetrics and gynecology, and a new version of the Acuson X700 system, featuring premium technologies for more clinical applications.

Better view of dynamic blood flow during interventional valve procedures

The new release of the premium Acuson SC2000 ultrasound system, PRIME edition for cardiovascular imaging is the first to offer live full-volume color Doppler imaging of heart valve anatomy and blood-flow using the new Z6Ms true volume TEE probe. With this technology, physicians can obtain a more anatomically accurate view of the heart and dynamic blood flow in one view during interventional valve procedures, even in patients with ECG abnormalities.

Current methods of imaging with 3D TEE require stitching – the fusion of multiple heartbeats – to form a complete image of heart function and blood flow. This gated acquisition eliminates almost all patients with any ECG abnormalities and often results in image artifacts, which may skew results. However, the new Z6Ms true volume TEE probe on the Acuson SC2000 PRIME is the first Siemens transducer touse true volume 3D TEE with 90° x 90° real-time acquisition and volume color Doppler, enabling full 3D images of the heart, in every heartbeat without stitching. By eliminating the need for multiple beats to form an image and adding volume color Doppler capabilities, the Z6Ms true volume TEE probe allows the surgeon to visualize and assess blood flow in real-time during a procedure to make sure the repaired or replaced valve is working properly, potentially reducing the need for a secondary intervention to correct any remaining regurgitation. The new technology is also available as an upgrade for users of previous versions of the Acuson SC2000 system.

Reliability and performance for general imaging demands in ultrasound

The new Acuson X600 ultrasound system – the latest addition to the Acuson X Family of mid-range ultrasound systems – enhances image quality, reliability and performance in its price class. Engineered on a robust system architecture, the Acuson X600 system is an affordable ultrasound solution with advanced, state-of-the-art technologies and workflow efficiencies migrated from premium systems.

The Acuson X600 system is equipped with many advanced imaging technologies such as real time spatial compounding and Dynamic TCE tissue contrast enhancement technology for reduction of artifacts and improved border detection, thus offering improved detail and contrast resolution. Three new volume transducers included on the system provide enhanced 3D/4D image quality for clear visualization of complex fetal and maternal anatomy. The system includes several knowledge-based productivity applications such as syngo AutoOB, which simplifies biometrics measurements of six major fetal structures*. This application saves up to 75 percent of key strokes** and provides a consistency in data measurement, thus increasing speed of exam and decreasing operator fatigue and risk of repetitive strain injuries.

Enhanced Features in Acuson X700 version 2.0

The Acuson X700 system is a shared-service ultrasound platform that leverages innovative imaging technologies for reliable performance across a broad range of clinical applications at an excellent price/performance ratio. The new version of the Acuson X700 system adds more premium technologies, like eSie Touch elasticity imaging technology, which provides physicians with more clinical information to differentiate benign and malignant tissue in the abdomen and small parts. Built-in features like micro-pinless (MP) transducer connectors and customizable upgrades make it easy to update the system as clinical needs evolve.
