The European Science Foundation and the University of Barcelona are pleased to announce the launch of the ESF-UB conferences in Biomedicine. The first conference will be on Nanomedicine in Sant Feliu de Guixols, Catalonia, 15-19 September 2006.

This conference will be the first in a series of biennial in-depth meetings that will bring together academic and industrial scientists, regulators and policy makers. A total of five conferences will be held each year covering Nanomedicine, Rare Diseases, Pharmacogenomics/Pharmacogenetics, Systems Biology and Functional Genomics.

Commenting on the new partnership Caroline Hirst, Head of the ESF Research Conferences Unit says, “The ESF is committed to forming valuable partnerships with key players in the scientific community. We will sign this new agreement with the University of Barcelona on 19 September to ensure both parties continue to provide a forum for high level topics at the frontier of scientific research. In this way, Catalonia also ensures they play their part in setting science agendas in Europe.”

Last year, ESF also signed an agreement of cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Universities of the Catalan Government. Representatives from the Ministry of Education and Universities of the Catalan Government and the University of Barcelona will attend the official signing ceremony in Sant Feliu de Guixols on 19 September.
