The Swiss National Computing Center, CSCS, an autonomous unit of The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich), has signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Energy Research Scienctic Computing Center (NERSC) in the United States. The MOU formalises the growing exchange of expertise and experience between the two organisations.

Under the agreement, the organisations will exchange staff for work on specific projects of mutual interest with the goal of sharing and furthering the scientific and technical know-how of both institutions. Both centers share a common technological focus, having selected Crax XT supercomputers as thier primary systems after throrough review of various systems.

The MOU, signed in January 2008, capitalises on the the organisational and operational similaritites of the Swiss and US computing centers.

CSCS is the largest supercomputing center in Switzerland. It is managed by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH Zurich). NERSC is the US Department of Energy’s flagship facility for computational science.
