Capital Games to showcase French expertise at Leipzig Games Convention

Capital Games, an independent cluster of videogames designers from the Paris Region, will be represented by four of its members at the Games Convention trade show to be held in Leipzig from 22 to 25 August 2007.

The four companies are AD-Invaders (specialists in 3D advergaming and Virtools software), Neko Entertainment (development engines and projects on console), Tetraedge (developments on Next-Gen mobile platforms using Symbian or Windows Mobile OS), and Wizarbox (So Blonde adventure game on PC in collaboration with a German publisher).

Many of the world’s most innovative designers and developers of videogames are based in France. In the Paris Region, Capital Games has become the focus of cutting-edge games development.

Advergaming (a contraction of ‘advertising’ and ‘gaming’) brings together all the techniques aimed at using games for advertising purposes. AD-Invaders is dedicated to the designing of games showcasing the universe of a brand or its products. It uses the Virtools technology known as 3DVIA, which is the latest real-time 3D software program developed by Dassault Systèmes. The Virtools contents can be viewed for free on the internet thanks to the 3D Life player (

Neko Entertainment products are put together using an open-ended platform for consoles called the Neko Game Development Kit (NGDK). This in-house technology enables the company’s teams to develop games for all types of platforms simultaneously. Neko Entertainment is licensed for Nintendo Wii/GBA/DS, Sony PS2/PSP, Microsoft XboX 360 and PC. For more information, go to:

Tetraedge is releasing its existing adventure games on SmartPhones for the Nintendo DS nomad console. The company will be offering a preview of its prototype of the SYBERIA 1 engine (with characters in 3D on a pre-calculated background) at the Leipzig convention. Tetraedge develops and publishes games under licence and adapts them to the following media: Pocket PC Phone as well as Symbian and Windows Mobile SmartPhones. For more information, go to:

Wizarbox has been developing its first adventure game on PC — So Blonde — in collaboration with German publisher DTP. Wizarbox has created a game accessible to all, which is expected to be released in November 2007. Specialising in providing services (i.e. conversion, outsourcing, development to order and consulting), Wizarbox is an official developer on the principal platforms of this segment of the market and on consoles, collectively known as Next-Gen. Im Focus: Researchers Discover New Anti-Cancer Protein

An international team of researchers has discovered a new anti-cancer protein. The protein, called LHPP, prevents the uncontrolled proliferation of cancer cells in the liver. The researchers led by Prof. Michael N. Hall from the Biozentrum, University of Basel, report in “Nature” that LHPP can also serve as a biomarker for the diagnosis and prognosis of liver cancer.

The incidence of liver cancer, also known as hepatocellular carcinoma, is steadily increasing. In the last twenty years, the number of cases has almost doubled...

Im Focus: Researchers at Fraunhofer monitor re-entry of Chinese space station Tiangong-1

In just a few weeks from now, the Chinese space station Tiangong-1 will re-enter the Earth's atmosphere where it will to a large extent burn up. It is possible that some debris will reach the Earth's surface. Tiangong-1 is orbiting the Earth uncontrolled at a speed of approx. 29,000 km/h.Currently the prognosis relating to the time of impact currently lies within a window of several days. The scientists at Fraunhofer FHR have already been monitoring Tiangong-1 for a number of weeks with their TIRA system, one of the most powerful space observation radars in the world, with a view to supporting the German Space Situational Awareness Center and the ESA with their re-entry forecasts.

Following the loss of radio contact with Tiangong-1 in 2016 and due to the low orbital height, it is now inevitable that the Chinese space station will...

Im Focus: Mars' oceans formed early, possibly aided by massive volcanic eruptions

Oceans formed before Tharsis and evolved together, shaping climate history of Mars

A new scenario seeking to explain how Mars' putative oceans came and went over the last 4 billion years implies that the oceans formed several hundred million...

Im Focus: Tiny implants for cells are functional in vivo

For the first time, an interdisciplinary team from the University of Basel has succeeded in integrating artificial organelles into the cells of live zebrafish embryos. This innovative approach using artificial organelles as cellular implants offers new potential in treating a range of diseases, as the authors report in an article published in Nature Communications.

In the cells of higher organisms, organelles such as the nucleus or mitochondria perform a range of complex functions necessary for life. In the networks of...
