Safe, sustainable and networked – the car of the future

ICT, components and smart systems are essential for a multitude of recent innovations, both inside the vehicle and at its interface to the networks of data and energy.

Novel trends and developments with high innovation potential will be discussed at the 16th International Forum on Advanced Microsystems for Automotive Applications - AMAA 2012 - on 30/31 May 2012 in Berlin.

The ambitious objectives of future road mobility, i.e. fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, and zero accidents, imply a paradigm shift in the concept of the car regarding its architecture, materials, and propulsion technology, and require an intelligent integration into the systems of transportation and power.

Therefore, the AMAA conference 2012 will focus on the topic “Smart Systems for Safe, Sustainable and Networked Vehicles”.

Experts from industry and academia are invited to submit proposals for papers addressing current research, developments and innovations in the field of ICT, components and systems and other key enabling technologies leading to the automobile and road transport of the future.

Discussions at the conference will focus on a wide range of application areas: Power Train & Vehicle Efficiency, Electrification, Safety & Driver Assistance, Networked Vehicles and Components & Systems.

Abstracts of papers to be presented at the AMAA 2012 should be submitted before 31 January 2012 to the Chairman of the AMAA, Dr. Gereon Meyer of VDI/VDE-IT.

In the focus: A supernova cocoon breakthrough

The first evidence in X-rays of a supernova shock wave breaking through a cocoon of gas around the star has been found.

This discovery may help explain why some supernova explosions are more powerful than others.

This supernova is called SN 2010jl and is found in a galaxy about 160 million light years from Earth.

SN 2010jl was first spotted by astronomers on November 3, 2010, and probably exploded about a month before that.
