Conference on Managing Urban Land & Innovative Solutions for the Revitalisation of Degraded Areas

The “3rd International Conference on Managing Urban Land” (CABERNET 2012 Conference) in conjunction with the “6th International Conference on Innovative Solutions for Revitalisation of Degraded Areas” will be held on the 2nd – 4th of October 2012 in Ustron (Poland).

The conference is organized by the Institute for Ecology of Industrial Areas (IETU), the Research and Supervisory Centre of Underground Mining Co. Ltd (CBiDGP), the CABERNET Europe’s Sustainable Brownfield Regeneration Network and CircUse project partners. The main conference theme is “Innovative Solutions towards Circular Land Use” and combines aspects of urban land management and degraded land revitalisation. During the conference, a special session will be carried out for the CircUse project on the 2nd of October, 2012. This session will introduce the CircUse project and concept and then present on the innovative approaches of the CircUse project to implement circular land use such as the data management tool and new management structures. A software training session for the land management data tool will also be offered to attendees to take part in.

In addition to the special CircUse session, academic scholars and experts from the field will present and discuss the results of other international research projects, recent political developments, and best practice experiences.

Innovative methods and instruments towards implementing land recycling for both the public and private sectors will be presented. The conference will also focus upon future EU-cohesion policies and the European Union’s growth strategy “Europe 2020”. The CABERNET 2012 programme will cover the topics of:

• Integrated urban land management and European funding programmes
• Innovative technologies for land revitalisation
• Economic, social and environmental tools for Circular Flow Land Use Management
• Land demand for renewable energy production on brownfields
• Best practice case studies
• Training, education and professionalism

Attendees to the CABERNET 2012 Conference can expect expertly analysed information about strengthening inner city agglomerations, opportunities to restrict the consumption of new land, how to support the creation of sustainable transport systems, the preservation of industrial cultural heritage sites, as well as renaturalisation and restoration of ecological functions to brownfield sites. Central to the conference theme is the transfer of knowledge to achieve a more sustainable urban land management through identifying the opportunities brownfields in urban areas offer.

CABERNET 2012 is already accepting papers for the conference. The deadline for the submission of abstracts is the 6th of July, 2012. All entries must not exceed 2,500 characters and conform to the requirements set forth by the “Call for Abstracts” found on the CircUse webpage (www.circuse.eu). Please send your abstracts to a.pilch@ietu.katowice.pl.
