At this conference, world-renowned international scientists will come together with policy decision makers to debate future policy options designed to deliver a healthier environment, sustainable transport, economic growth and industrial competitiveness. This comes at a time when the European Commissioner for the Environment has announced ambitious plans to cut CO2 emissions from cars, reinforced by solid fundamental research conducted throughout Europe under the auspices of the Commissioner for Science and Research.

This Conference is being organised at a crucial moment for Europe, when the preparations and implementation of key EU and international legislation related to the environment is expected in the near future. New legislation on the horizon covers a wide range of topics including: new air quality standards, transport, EURO 5-6 and EURO VI emission standards for Light Duty and Heavy Duty vehicles, Fuel Directive Review, the strategy to promote biofuels and other alternative fuels (H2), etc.
