End-to-end and customized automation for small and large breweries

The Siemens Industry Automation Division will be presenting its customized process control packages for small and large breweries at the Brau Beviale in Nuremberg from November 12 to 14, 2008.

Braumat Compact has been designed for start-ups and smaller brewery projects; Braumat Plus, on the other hand, with its integrated plant asset management, is intended for large brewery projects. Both packages are based on Siemens´ Simatic PCS 7 process control system. Braumat Classic, based on Simatic S7, has been equipped with additional functions and supports the integration of the latest Simatic S7 technology.

Siemens´ brewery control systems are scalable and suitable for small and medium-sized breweries as well as for companies with a number of brewing sites. The Braumat Compact and Braumat Plus packages are based on the standardized Simatic PCS 7 process control system, which can be deployed in a variety of industry sectors. Braumat Compact has been designed for start-ups, smaller brewery projects, sub-plants or individual process areas; it combines automation, operation and monitoring in one customized solution. The package has a flexible recipe system for several beer types and includes the planning of production and cleaning jobs as well as detailed production reports or batch-specific trend analysis.

Braumat Plus is suitable for large breweries with one or more brewing sites and a wider product range. With the aid of flexible client-server architecture it can be customized to fit the respective plant size like a glove. It contains a batch package for recipe control, a standardized interface to the Simatic IT manufacturing execution system, a route control system with comprehensive diagnostic functions plus an asset management module.

Braumat Classic is based on Simatic S7 controllers. It includes extended functionalities which secure the long-term operation of plants and support the integration of the latest Simatic S7 technology.

This year´s exhibits also include the end-to-end OPL (optimized packaging line) standardization concept for low lifecycle costs of bottle-filling and packaging lines. With this concept, modularized and standardized components from the Simotion motion control system and Sinamics drive system reduce the cost of engineering, commissioning and operation, including maintenance. Siemens will also be showing its range of process instrumentation for use in the brewing sector, which is characterized by its high availability, precision and reliability. The company´s Simatic IT manufacturing execution system for breweries will also be on show, a system which offers transparency and efficiency for the entire range of brewing operations – from production planning through to process optimization, including quality assurance and tracking & tracing. The Simatic IT Unilab laboratory information management system will also be featured. The Division´s presentation will be rounded off with resource-saving energy management, which ranges from the identification of savings potential and optimization opportunities right through to enhanced energy efficiency in production and building management.
