"EconomyDoctor" Internet Service provides figures for EU agriculture

MTT Agrifood Research Finland has published an easy-to-use Internet service, which contains the average figures for agriculture in EU Member States. The figures are based on the EU Commission's FADN database.

The FADN database is a significant farm-level database. As an example, for accounting year 2004, it contains information from 74,000 farms across the European Union. The weighted figures of those farms represent the average figures of 4 million farm enterprises in the EU.

In order to help users monitor FADN results MTT Agrifood Research Finland has published an Internet service: EconomyDoctor FADN Standard Results. The service has a flexible user interface, which makes it easy to compare the figures for different Member States from accounting years 1989-2004. The service is available in English at www.mtt.fi/eufadn.

Thousands of reports

The Internet service contains the basic figures for Member States from accounting years 1989 - 2004. It also contains income statements, balance sheets, and key figure reports from each accounting year between 1998 and 2004.

Under "Own criteria" users can select classifiers to generate the report of their choice. Nine types of report are available under the section: income statement, balance sheet, key figures report, gross revenue report, subsidy report, cost report, labour input, arable land use and livestock report. The classifiers are: accounting year, member state, FADN region, economic size class, organic production, least favoured area, and five different production type classifications. A maximum of five classifiers may be selected per report.

It is easy to generate several thousands of reports to compare figures between Member States. The user simply selects the report type and the classifiers to be used and the service then generates tables dynamically on the basis of those selections. By moving the cursor above the variables and classifiers the user can obtain information about the calculation and definitions for the variables and classifiers.

The results are based entirely on the data files downloaded from the public Internet site of the EU DG AGRI. G.3. (http://ec.europa.eu/agriculture/rica/), where you can find more detailed information about the FADN (Farm Accountancy Data Network).
