Cass research fellow Sharon Lin has been awarded a prestigious UK-China Research Fellowship of Excellence by the Department of Education and Skills which aims to promote research collaboration between researchers and institutions in the UK and China.

There are 25 Research Fellowships awarded each year which enable researchers to spend between three months and a year working with a Chinese institution. Sharon’s research proposal, "Integrating Chinese Oil and Copper Markets into the World Energy and Metal Centre Stage" was awarded a Fellowship.

This project consists of two parts: the first part examines the impact of Chinese economic growth on the worldwide price dynamics of crude oil and copper and the second part looks into possible investment opportunities in China within these two markets.

She said: “I feel it is a privilege to be able to work on issues that are so important to our everyday life. These issues are highly topical in China and have generated very different opinions from what I expected. More analyses have been planned to uncover the true story.”

“I believe it is very important to strengthen and establish research collaborations with our colleagues in China and to grow the Cass reputation in the region.”
