World’s first Carbon Management MBA launched

UEA, world-famous for cutting edge climate change research, is pioneering an MBA in Strategic Carbon Management designed to deliver a new type of manager able to lead confidently towards low carbon market opportunities.

The one-year, full-time course is led by UEA’s Norwich Business School and aimed at businesses, entrepreneurs, policy makers, regulators and NGOs. It brings together internationally established research and teaching expertise from a number of other schools within UEA, including the School of Environmental Sciences, the School of Economics and the School of Development Studies.

“The quest for sustainable competitive advantage in a dynamic and complex low carbon economy requires new business tools and a new breed of managers,” said UEA Vice-Chancellor Prof Bill Macmillan. “I am delighted that UEA is exploiting its wealth of expertise in environmental research and business understanding to launch this innovative new programme.”

The new MBA will help managers integrate environmental considerations into their business strategies, while at the same time discovering new market opportunities. The result should be both reduced carbon emissions and improved business performance.

Dr Bob Watson, Chief Scientist at the World Bank, said: “The MBA in Strategic Carbon Management at UEA is timely. This MBA is leading the field alongside innovative companies in demonstrating that being climate friendly is good business. UEA is a world-leading educational institution globally recognised for developing educational curricula needed for tomorrow’s world.”

The MBA (Masters in Business Administration) in Strategic Carbon Management will be formally launched in London later this year. The first intake of students will begin in January 2008.
