Molecular and Bioorganic Foundations of Secondary Metabolism

Programmbeschreibung / Programme Summary

Im Rahmen des Sonderforschungsbereichs werden die Analyse von Pilz- und Pflanzeninhaltsstoffen, ihre Biosynthese, die Regulation ihrer Biosynthese, die Signalfunktion solcher Metabolite und die Rolle von Sekundärmetaboliten im Stoffwechsel untersucht. Darüber hinaus wird die Entwicklung neuer und verbesserter NMR-Methoden und Rechenverfahren für die Strukturaufklärung vorangetrieben. Es wird erwartet, dass sich hieraus langfristig neue Ansätze für die Herstellung pharmazeutisch und landwirtschaftlich wirksamer Substanzen ergeben, neuartige Reaktionsmechanismen molekular verstanden und gezielte Eingriffe in den Sekundärstoffwechsel möglich werden.

The goal of this collaborative research acentre is the analysis of secondary metabolites of fungi and plants, their synthesis, the regulation of their biosynthetic pathways and the role that these compounds play as signal substances and during metabolism. A central aspect of these studies is the inplementation of novel NMR-methods and computer-assisted methods for structure determination. It is to be expected that the collaborativ research centre will contribute to the development of innovative strategies for the generation of novel biologically active compounds, will foster a molecular understandig of novel reaction mechanisms and will make possible directed changes of secondary metabolism.
