This feature provides options for treating difficult feed water, and offers considerable capital cost savings by eliminating the need for two-pass reverse osmosis (RO) in many applications.
EDI is a simple and chemical-free process for deionizing water using a combination of selective ion exchange membranes, conductive resins, and electricity to remove ions from water. As a result of extensive research and development by Siemens, the new VNX-HH EDI module reduces the hardness scaling potential of the water through a proprietary combination of the membranes, the resins and construction of the module. This unique configuration allows the VNX-HH modules to operate on feed water with hardness that is four times the industry standard of 0.5 ppm. For this reason, the VNX-HH module eliminates the need for two-pass reverse osmosis (RO) in many applications.
Patrick Buzzell, EDI product manager at Siemens, said: “Because the VNX-HH EDI module removes the necessity for two-pass RO in the treatment train, customers can save on capital costs while simplifying their water treatment design. Now, a typical treatment train would include anti-scalant prior to a single-pass RO system, followed by the Ionpure VNX-HH module, to produce high-purity water without EDI hardness scaling.”
With the business activities of Siemens VAI Metal Technologies, (Linz, Austria), Siemens Water Technologies (Warrendale, Pa., U.S.A.), and Industry Technologies, (Erlangen, Germany), the Siemens Industry Solutions Division (Erlangen, Germany) is one of the world's leading solution and service providers for industrial and infrastructure facilities. Using its own products, systems and process technologies, Industry Solutions develops and builds plants for end customers, commissions them and provides support during their entire life cycle. With around 31,000 employees worldwide Siemens Industry Solutions achieved an order intake of EUR 8.415 billon in fiscal year 2008.
