Siemens again successful with H-Class power plant technology in Turkey

The picture shows the Siemens gas turbine SGT5-8000H during assembly in the Siemens gas turbine manufacturing facility in Berlin, Germany.

Siemens is supplying two SGT5-8000H gas turbines, along with steam turbines and generators to Turkey. These components are to be installed in two single shaft units in Hamitabat Combined Cycle Power plant (CCPP).

They will have an installed power generating capacity of 1200 megawatts (MW) in total. Customer is GAMA Power Systems Engineering and Contracting Inc. who shall act as turnkey EPC contractor in the project.

The end customer and operator of the plant is the independent power producer Hamitabat Elektrik Üretim ve Ticaret A.S, belonging to Limak Holding in Turkey. Commissioning is scheduled for the summer of 2017. This order will increase the number of H-Class gas turbines delivered to Turkey by Siemens to four units and reflects the company's H-class technology leadership.

The new natural-gas-fired power plant units will be erected near the city of Lüleburgaz, in the Kırklareli province in northwest Turkey. Siemens is supplying two gas turbine packages for the two single-shaft units, each rated at 600 MW of installed capacity. Each package consists of a model SGT5-8000H gas turbine, an SST5-5000 steam turbine, a SGen5-3000W generator and the associated turbine I&C systems. Siemens will also provide technical services during erection and commissioning.

This type of gas turbine package combines a standardized basic design with customized engineering based on specific customer requirements and merchant electricity market conditions including proven technology, efficiency, flexibility, reliability as well as optimized project scheduling. This approach also offers the advantage of low costs, while simultaneously providing all operational and commercial advantages to meet individual customer demands in a competitive electricity market environment. The project is eligible for coverage of German Export Credit Agency Euler Hermes.

“This order for two H-Class turbines will reinforce our position as the market leader in Turkey for this innovative and, at the same time, proven power plant technology”, declared Marco Hoffart, head of Sales Large Gas Turbine packages at Siemens Power and Gas division.

The gas turbines will be produced in the Berlin gas turbine manufacturing plant, with the steam turbines and generators being fabricated at the Mülheim plant.

The fleet of Siemens H-class world-record gas turbines has achieved more than 170,000 cumulative equivalent operating hours. Siemens has now sold 46 H-class gas turbines worldwide. Sixteen of these machines are currently in successful commercial operation with a high degree of starting reliability and availability, making this the most successful gas turbine of this efficiency class on the world market.
