Shougang Jingtang expands tinned plate production

The Shougang Jingtang continuous annealing line no. 1 equipped by Siemens.

Shougang Jingtang United Iron & Steel Co., Ltd., a Chinese steel producer, has engaged Siemens to supply drive, electrical and automation equipment for a continuous annealing line and a double-stand cold reduction mill in cold rolling mill no. 3. The lines are designed to process tinned plate, and will be constructed in the company's plant on the Caofeidian Peninsula in the Hebei Province. The value of this order lies in the lower double-digit million euro range. Commissioning is scheduled for August 2013.

Siemens will supply the complete drive system, the basic automation, including the technological control systems for the continuous annealing line and the cold rolling mill, as well as the instrumentation and control system for the strip cleaning and aftertreatment in the two new lines in Shougang Jingtang. The project also includes the process automation, control desks, and human-machine interface equipment with user-friendly process and plant diagnostic functions.

The annealing line is designed to handle very thin strip with thicknesses ranging from 0.15 to 0.55 millimeters, and reach a process speed of 760 meters per minute. The cold rolling mill will have a wide range of operating modes for cold reduction and skin-passing the surface of the steel strip.

The continuous annealing line will be automated throughout on the basis of the “Siroll PL” automation concept for strip processing lines with Simatic S7 programmable logic controllers. The fast technological control systems in the rolling stand section will be based on the Simatic TDC control system. The programming will use standardized application modules, which will simplify commissioning and maintenance. The process automation system and the operator control and monitoring system of the almost fully automated production lines will be equipped with standard server components, some of which will be laid out redundantly. This will increase availability. All main and auxiliary drives will be implemented with Sinamics AC technology. These drives are characterized by a compact design, low noise development, standardized parameterization

throughout the entire production line, and great ease of maintenance.

The two lines will be constructed jointly with SMS Siemag AG, Düsseldorf. The continuous annealing line will feature a recrystallization furnace made by Fives Stein, Evry, France. Shougang Jingtang is a joint venture of the Chinese steelmakers Shougang Corp. and Tangshan Iron & Steel Co. It runs a production complex for processing and coating steel on the man-made Caofeidian Peninsula, 80 kilometers south of Tangshan. The plant was relocated from the Beijing

conurbation to the countryside as part of an environmental protection program, and is being continually expanded. Siemens had previously supplied equipment for two continuous annealing The Shougang Jingtang continuous annealing line no. 1 equipped by Siemens.
