Enric Trillas receives the international Kampé de Fériet Award

The scientific researcher of the European Centre for Soft Computing (Spain), Enric Trillas (Barcelona 1940), has won the prestigious Kampé de Fériet Award 2008. The award was presented to him during the International Congress “Information Processing and Management of Uncertainty in Knowledge Based Systems”, which took place in Malaga (Spain) from the 23rd to the 27th of June.

The Kampé de Fériet Award was created in 1992 and, since then, awards scientists who have exceptionally contributed “to the field of information processing and management of uncertainty”, every two years. Among the previous recipients are Ilya Prigogine (Nobel Prize in Chemistry, 1977), Kenneth Arrow (Nobel Prize in Economic Science, 1972) y Daniel Kahneman (Nobel Prize in Economic Science, 2002).

Enric Trillas has been Professor at UPM University (Madrid) and member of several International scientific committees, as well as director of some Spanish public institutions, such as the Spanish National Research Council (1984-1988) and the National Institute for Aerospace and Technology (1989-1995) among others.

Professor Trillas was the pioneer of Fuzzy Logic in Spain and is internationally well known. In fact the European Pioneer Award was presented to him by the European Society for Fuzzy Logic and Technologies in 1999 and the Fuzzy Systems Pioneer Award by IEEE in 2005. During the last year Enric Trillas has been laureate with other important prizes, such as the Medal of the Polish Academy of Science, by Professor Janusz Kacprzyk.

Currently, Enric Trillas is the co-head of a research unit at the European Centre of Soft Computing, an advanced research and development centre in intelligent systems.
