IHP Project reaches Final Round of European Innovation Radar Prize

As part of the EU project “myAirCoach”, researchers from IHP – Innovations for High Performance Microelectronics develop an intelligent adapter for standard asthma inhalers. The adapter monitors whether the patient adheres to the therapy and medication plan, determines the correct medication, and measures time and place where the inhaler is used.

In addition, local environmental conditions, including temperature, pressure, and particle concentration are determined. The results are transferred wirelessly through a mobile phone to an online system for further processing. A first IHP prototype has already been tested in a laboratory environment.

“We are convinced that our innovative approach holds the key to a better treatment of asthma patients in the future”, says IHP project leader Dr. Steffen Ortmann. “The results of the online voting make us to feel confident for the final round in Bratislava”, he suggests.

Besides IHP, partners from five different European countries work together in the project under the lead of a large research institute from Greece. The Finn Jaakko Salminen is assigned as coach for the finals. He is a member of the Finnish Business Angels Network and knows exactly how to bring an idea to the market.

16 finalists from all over Europe compete in four categories during the final round of this year's Innovation Radar Prize of the European Commission.

In Bratislava they pitch their ideas in just 3 minutes. They have to explain their innovation and their plan how to bring this innovation from the laboratory to the market in front of a jury. One winner in each of four categories as well as an overall European winner will be awarded.
