ASIATIC Development Berhad Endow UPM RM1 Million

University Putra Malaysia (UPM) having benefit an endowment sum RM1 Million from growing plantation companies, Asiatic Development Berhad (ADB) in conjunction of Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) among them.


The endowed sum shall be known as constitute the Tan Sri (Dr.) Lim Goh Tong Endowment Fund and to be jointly controlled and administered by ADB and UPM in accordance with the MoA here, today.

UPM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Nik Mustapha R. Abdullah said ADB and UPM agree that disbursements released from the fund shall be utilized specifically for the objectives of the grant of scholarships, the funding of research programmes and educational activities.

“The grant of scholarships under the name of The Tan Sri (Dr.) Lim Goh Tong Scholarship to deserving students,” he said.

The MoA were signing by ADB chairman, Tan Sri Mohd Amin Osman on behalf of ADB and UPM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Nik Mustapha R. Abdullah on behalf UPM.

Mohd Amin said ASIATIC is a corporation with experiences in palm oil industry. It is easy for us to co-operate with UPM, which is a University with experiences in doing research of agriculture.

“We hope that the UPM students who involve in the practical programs are not only improving their capability in ASIATIC but also in all the company of Genting Groups.

“UPM has been chosen to take the social responsibility to educate and to produce students with high quality so that they can be a leader,” he said.

ADB (Asiatic) is one of the fastest growing plantation companies listed on the Main Board of Bursa Malaysia which incorporated in Malaysia on 29 September 1977. It become a wholly owned subsidiary of Genting Berhad on 22 February 1980 to spearhead Genting’s Plantation business.
