The Forschungsinstitut für Molekulare Pharmakologie is engaged in basic research in molecular pharmacology. The activities of the largest pharmacological institute in Germany are devoted to the identification and utilisation of potential drug targets. The goal is to develop new concepts for pharmacologically influencing the organism (proof of principle). Its interdisciplinary organisation allows the FMP to interlink structure- and function-orientated research in the field of molecular pharmacology in a manner unique in Germany.
The FMP occupies a key position for mediating collaboration between different partners, and will constitute a forum of communication to improve the cooperation between basic university research and industrial drug development.
Since 1992 the FMP has evolved from the Institut für Wirkstofforschung of the Academy of Science of the former GDR. It is a member of the Leibniz-Association and the Forschungsverbund Berlin e.V.
