ZPID is the national documentation and information center for psychology in the Federal Republic of Germany. Following a suggestion of the German Psychological Society (DGPs), ZPID was founded by Prof. Dr. Günther Reinert in 1972 and was funded as a project of the University of Trier until 1988 when it achieved the status of a Central Scientific Institute of the University of Trier. Since then, ZPID has been jointly funded by the national and state governments of the Federal Republic of Germany as an institute of the Blue List Science Association which changed its name to the Wissenschaftsgemeinschaft Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz (WGL) in 1997.
