XiTact SA is a Swiss high-tech startup company in the medical field. The company was founded in April 2000 and is heavily funded by venture capital.
XiTact SA develops and markets the Virtual Patient, a virtual reality haptic simulator for minimal invasive surgery. This "flight simulator for surgeons" enables surgeons to practice different operations, simulate difficult situations under high stress, plan complex interventions using real patient data and enables manufacturers to test new medical devices. Surgeons from various international hospitals and training centers who tested the device were enthusiastic about the new possibilities and have offered support for its further development. The medical device industry views the Virtual Patient as a product placement platform for their surgical instruments and is therefore also interested in a cooperation. Such factors will help XiTact develop a product that offers a cost-effective and realistic environment for education and operation planning.
The company targets the surgical simulation market with a volume exceeding CHF 1.5 billion per year worldwide. A first commercial release is expected to be launched in the near future.
The roots of XiTact lie in a number of research projects that have been carried out at the two Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology in Lausanne and Zurich.
Currently XiTact employs a highly qualified and multi-disciplinary team of 12 people. XiTact has its main office in Morges with a branch office in Zurich.
