Network Profile

The "Pro3 process engineering expertise network" interlinks and focuses the activities of its members in basic and applied research, teaching, and application in the field of process engineering.

Maintaining and developing expertise in process engineering is of great importance for the global competitiveness of the material transformation industry, which includes not only the chemical industry but also the food industry, pharmaceutical and paper industries, and many companies in the environmental technology sector. Moreover, process engineering is a key technology for reducing the impact on limited natural resources and on the environment.

The special feature of the Pro3 process engineering expertise network is the close interlinking of basic research, applied research, and industrial application, and is reflected in the composition of the members. Those represented to date include:

• the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems, Magdeburg,
  
• the universities of Stuttgart, Kaiserslautern and Karlsruhe, as expertise universities, and
  
• the international companies BASF AG, Cognis Deutschland GmbH, Degussa AG, IPF Beteiligungsgesellschaft Berndt KG, Lurgi AG, Merck KgaA, Rauschert Verfahrenstechnik GmbH, and Siemens AG.

For specific topics, further members are sought who are able to contribute expertise. This coverage of all levels of the innovation chain offers outstanding opportunities to exploit potentials of research topics at an earlier stage and to use the limited means more effectively.

The research projects are supplemented by joint scientific forums, lectures, and ongoing education events for students, university members, company employees, and the public. Local centers for such activities to date have been established at the universities of Stuttgart, Kaiserslautern, Karlsruhe, and Magdeburg.
