German Network for Evidence Based Medicine

Who we are

The German EbM Network was founded in Berlin on October 6, 2000. The Network’s primary mission is to establish a competence and reference centre for all aspects of evidence-based medicine. Against this background, the German EbM Network provides an interdisciplinary communication platform for the basic principles of EbM that aims to promote co-ordination between medical research and clinical care. One of its central tasks is to encourage projects that are concerned with scientific and methodological problems, aspects of professional development and the question of how to translate EbM into clinical practice. The Network will initiate and advise on such activities. To achieve a high level of quality, emphasis is placed on integrating the Network’s activities with the debate on EbM at the international level which has often been found to be more advanced. Also, impartiality will be ensured, which is necessary to establish an appropriate communication platform for the various interest groups that are part of the German health care system.

The networks objectives are...:

  • ...to coordinate and facilitate activities relating to evidence-based medicine or evidence-based health care in the German speaking area

  • ...to further develop and apply the principles, concepts and techniques of Evidence-based Medicine

  • ...to conduct annual scientific meetings and events

  • ...to offer ‘Train-the-Trainer‘ courses on the application of evidence-based medicine

  • ...to advance professional development in the field of EbM

  • ...to conduct teaching conferences and workshops
