Region

The Competence Network SOUTH WEST represents one of the most important regions for laser technology. It stands out doe to a particularly high potential of innovative research and development work and its specific economic translation.

The centre of the region is Stuttgart, where the most innovative laser systems and the latest laser beam sources and laser technologies are explored, developed, and produced. This takes place in a very close co-operation between market leading laser and system manufacturers, innovative terotechnology manufacturers, and research institutes. There are close contacts to well known users in the field of small and medium enterprises (SME) and internationally operating companies located in the region.

R & D

The numerous scientific institutes contribute with their research and development works and their education work and diverse in-service courses to the progress of laser technology and its successful use in industrial production. Tasks are dealt with in terms of integral action and reach from basic research and development work to demonstration projects for industrial use. Highly innovative and efficient companies realise the quick and immediate translation of the research results into new products and processes, that are used in all fields of industrial production.

Technology transfer

The combine of partners from industry and various University and research institutes in the south west is a fertile interrelation between education and research that helps to promote industrial development and production technical net product. This manifests in particular in the integral and co-operative involvement in research projects, that are funded by the BMBF (Federal Ministry of Education and Research and Development), the EU and the state of Baden-Württemberg, through direct, bilateral or multilateral co-operations between the various partners.

Competences

The Competence Network SOUTH WEST has an excellent infrastructure with internationally leading and productive high-tech enterprises and with state of the art research laboratories the latest diagnosis and measuring systems. The integration of the advice and testing centre "Laserberatungsverbund Südwest" with the Competence Network creates a well-adjusted co-operation with industrial institutions, the chamber of commerce, and the trade corporation in the field of in-service courses.
