A Globally Unique
The beginning of the 1970s broke new ground in educational policy. New challenges in a world that was becoming more complex resulted in new demands which could no longer be met by traditional institutes of education. The demand for science grew, and the call for an increase in the number of academics in the population became vocal. The result was the establishment of a globally unique educational institute: the Fachhochschule (University of Applied Sciences). It was made up of state and private schools of architecture and engineering as well as other institutions for vocationally-oriented training in specialized fields, some of which had long traditions. The Fachhochschule Münster was founded in 1971 by integrating eight existing institutions. The departments of business administration and social affairs were then added. With 2,311 students at that time it was considered one of the smaller Fachhochschulen - today it is regarded as one of the larger ones.
