The University of Applied Sciences Hochschule Magdeburg-Stendal
Today, the University of Applied Sciences, founded in 1991, stands for highly intensive academic training and dedicated students. Interested students can choose from a range of 20 degree courses offered by the universitys eight departments on the Magdeburg and Stendal campuses. Some 150 professors ensure that about 4,200 students in Magdeburg and 800 students in Stendal (enrolled for the winter semester 2002) can benefit from excellent individual counselling and academic supervision. Most degree courses are eight semester courses and the university awards a diploma (FH) at the end of the course.
The Green Campus
Since the winter semester 2000 all departments located in Magdeburg have their premises on a joint campus. The recently renovated buildings are equipped with the latest technology. In addition, there are a new lecture hall, a new student cafeteria and three large laboratory centres. The campus is spread over 200,000 m2 and offers enough space for a break in the shade of old trees or sports.
Due to the fact that the training is orientated towards practice, a broad network of co-operative relations has developed, mainly at regional level, that are being strengthened and further developed not only economically, but also in the social, cultural and socio-political fields. The university co-operates closely with regional companies and businesses, social institutions such as social security offices and youth welfare departments, health insurance companies and welfare associations. Therefore, many student projects have direct practical relevance.
Life at the university also benefits from international contacts and the students at Hochschule Magdeburg-Stendal continue to take advantage of this offer. Internships and study visits abroad are becoming more and more important for the universitys training programmes. Mandatory terms abroad are incorporated into some courses. The University has official bilateral co-operations with about 30 partner institutions in Europe and outside Europe; for example: China, France, United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Romania, Sweden, Spain, the Ukraine, USA and Belarus.
