Institut für Agrar- und Stadtökologische Projekte an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin


The Institute for Agricultural and Urban Ecological Projects at the Humboldt University in Berlin (IASP) is an interdisciplinary research institution under the aegis of the non-profit Association for the Promotion of Agricultural and Urban Ecological Projects (A.S.P.).

The collaboration with Humboldt University is governed by a cooperation agreement and coordinated by an academic council.

The IASP is integrated into the university`s Faculty of Agriculture and Horticulture as a special academic unit.

The IASP´s activities in the field of innovations transfer to industry and the associated PR activities are supported by an academic council.

Introduction: Agricultural Ecology and Urban Ecology

The Agricultural Ecology and Urban Ecology Unit runs research projects with small and medium-sized enterprises aiming at turning innovative research results into commercially viable products.

In the past, this unit has attained the status of a centre of excellence for the treatment of railroad beds, providing the interface between theory and practice or between the academic world and industry. The unit also designs and implements ecologically sound village and urban development plans.

  • Develop and optimise products and methods leading up to the implementation of prototypes
  • Assist in the introduction of new products and methods through trials, scientific services and training
  • Plan, build and monitor model, pilot and demonstration units
  • Develop innovative solutions in the field of biogenic waste recycling
  • Develop modern methods of sewage treatment, exhaust air purification and water conditioning
  • Develop alternative ways of power generation and use
  • Develop application-oriented measuring methods to determine the quality of products and processes
  • Develop plant-based surface treatment systems for building constructions
  • Develop innovative products based on renewables
  • Develop approaches and scenarios for agricultural and urban ecological problems.
  • Develop and file applications for national and international projects
  • Supervise degree theses and internships for foreign and domestic students
  • Host national and international scientific conferences.
