The Fraunhofer Institute for Technological Trend Analysis INT conducts prophylactic research of relevance to government and industrial technological planning activities.
Its work focuses on the monitoring and evaluation of international developments in research and technology (R & T) as an ongoing assessment of the present situation, and on the analysis of developments in selected technological fields with respect to their long-term impact and repercussions on governmental and industrial planning.
Technological information of relevance to strategic planning is systematically collected, evaluated, documented and, in specific cases, subjected to in-depth analysis and impact assessment, in order to allow the early identification, forecasting and evaluation of long-term technological developments.
Special emphasis is placed on defense issues and the scientific and technological aspects of security policy, such as arms control, nuclear weapons and proliferation.
Experimental and theoretical investigations into the effects of ionizing and electromagnetic radiation on electronic components, appliances and systems are also conducted to support and validate the decision-making competence of national security forces. The Institute is equipped with a variety of radiation sources, electromagnetic simulation facilities and special-purpose computer programs for its work in this area.
